Biografie van The Partysquad

If you are someone that likes to party chances are that you will have boogied down to the odd The Partysquad tune. DJ Jerry and MC Ruben are a mainstay at the top of the Dutch clubs and pop charts and have done their name proud for many years. The Past It was 1998 when the duo first met during the infamous Wanted tour for fresh talent. DJ Jerry was the resident DJ and Ruben the regular Host. While the tour traversed through the many outskirts of the Dutch landscape at times the crowd would be slow to warm up to the yet unknown talents. It soon turned out that the Hype skills of Ruben were the perfect combo with Jerry’s DJ-ing to get the crowds jumping and so the first step was made into what would become the Partysquad. In that very same year the twosome started their first residency in the Amsterdam club Margaritas and initiated what would become the conquest of the clubs wide and far. The very first Dutch single release by the Partysquad was the track “Wat Wil Je Doen” (“What Do You Wanna Do” – red) also the title track for the success movie The Schnitzelparadijs. Released on the Top Notch label it quickly ascended to a Top 10 chart position. Early 2006 their follow up “I’m Sorry” is released – a collaboration with RMXCRW (DJ Chuckie’s crew) and singer Gio and subsequently becomes The BoxBom, TMF Superclip and goes up to a Top 20 chart position. Again in 2006 The Partysquad scores a Top 5 Chart hit with the track “Rampeneren” (slang for Smash the club up – red) together with Ali B. and Yes-R. This single managed to stay at the top of the charts for a phenomenal 15 weeks. Soon after the singles ‘Hard2Get” ft Gio, Ali B. and Ambush and ‘Dat is die Shit” (That’s that Shit – red) ft Darryl, Gio, Negativ en Nino continue to keep the momentum going. It is still 2006 when The Partysquad together with Extince, Jacqueline Govaert (Krezip) and (Big Boy) Caprice open up that years TMF Awards and together perform the anthem ‘Ben Je Down” (Are you Down – red). The demand for the track that was originally meant as a one-off performance becomes so overwhelming that TMF and The Partysquad decide to release the track as a download. Within a week and without any physical sales whatsoever “Ben je down” storms into the charts on a groundbreaking nr 4 position. The revenue for this historic feat was all donated to the Dance4life charity. No surprise then that The Partysquad wins 2 Urban Awards (formerly Mobo Awards) in 2007: one for Best DJ and the other for Best Video for “Dat is Die Shit”. Over the years the guys release various successful mix compilations, like the first UK Sounds (ID&T Records) and its follow up De Bazen van de Club (Masters of the Club – red). In 2007 the single from this last album is an infectious track together with Brainpower called “Non Stop”. Straight after its release the track is elected TMF Superclip and Dixste on FunX FM eventually pushing through to a nr 12 chart position and a ridiculous amount of views for a Dutch song on YouTube; over 3 million. In honour of the Partysquad’s notorious 2007 summer tour the single “CrazyFunkyStyle” is released which is a catchy house-hiphop crossover blend that takes the clubs by storm. In October 2007 the guys are awarded 2 TMF Awards; The TMF Hit Radio Award (for “Non Stop feat Brainpower”) and the much coveted TMF Pure Award. And for the second year in a row they win the Best DJ Award at the Urban Awards 2008. Just in time for the 2008 Summertour is the release of their latest compilation; The Partysquad and SlamFm present: Total Los the Mixtape Volume 1, containing their latest hot shot single with Afrojack; Drop Down (do my dance) already picked up by Ministry of Sound UK and gearing up for mainstream success after being chosen as TMF Superclip and 538 Dancesmash. Masters of the Club, Supreme Sound Selectors extraordinaire, pioneers of the crossover club sound, not only is The Partysquad one of Hollands biggest outfits, their following is so ever expanding that Hollands most popular community site Hyves has twice had to adjust their maximum ‘friends’ allowed for any such Hyve (currently over 155.000 friends on their hyve http://partysquad.hyves.nl/). They been in the booth with and have performed opening acts for artists as 50 Cent, Laidback Luke, Kanye West, Armand van Helden and many more. Accident In September 2008 Jerry and Ruben join Roger Sanchez to Ibiza for the summer closing at Pacha. What should have been the start of The Partysquad’s international advanture turned out differently; Jerry gets involved in a serious accident when the car in which he is in, falls of a cliff. After being in a coma for 6 weeks a long journey starts. Not only is he injured very badly but the crash has caused amnesia. While recovering they occasionally release a track. Almost anonymous because of the fact that Jerry can’t perform yet. For instance the Murderer EP on Diplo’s Mad Decent label, the digital release of the track A(msterdamn) with Afrojack and I’m back with Dean Coleman ft. Michael Bryan. Present and future After almost two years of fighting his way back to full recovery Jerry is now ready to enter a new exciting time together with Ruben and The Partysquad! Not only have the experiences of these last years made them wiser it also gave them new inspiration for tracks and collaborations. To honor Jerry’s comeback, they produced a track in collaboration with The Opposites. Unsurprisingly they named it ‘Welkom Terug’ (Welcome Back). The track has an awesome flow, combining all the best that hip hop and house have to offer. Opposites members Twan and Willem joined them on a trip to Spain recently to feature in the recording of the music video that accompanies this 'Welcome Back' track. As a special thanks to everyone that has shown their love and support, they made this track available free of charge. Next to ‘Welcome Back”, they will release their annual mixtape compilation. A mix cd fully loaded with Partysquad exclusives combined with all your favorite upfront club bangers. The summer of 2010 is packed with gigs and a tour throughout Europe where they will perform in countries such as: Greece, Spain and Italy but also Surinam, Aruba and Curacao. Please check the agenda to see where you can see them perform. Since the summer of 2007 The Partysquad is the official ambassador for Dance4Life. Recently they went to Uganda to visit the charity projects that Dance4Life supports. The trip had a huge impact on Ruben and Jerry. Not only was it their first trip together as the Partysquad (after the accident). It also was an eye opener to see that so many people still don’t appreciate the life that was given to them. And that’s the one thing that The Partysquad now feels more then ever!
